The Chaser’s War on Everything, sometimes known as simply The War (within the show) or The Chaser’s, is a satirical comedy TV show dealing with anything from advertising to politics to current affairs. Australian satire group The Chaser (the team of members who write and perform the show) comprises Chris Taylor, Julian Morrow, Craig Reucassel, Andrew Hansen and Chas Licciardello. Sixth member Dominic Knight writes for the show but does not perform on-screen.

Not unfamiliar with attracting controversy, the Chaser team even provides an automated complaints form, tongue firmly in cheek, on their website , which features a choice to replace the show on ABC’s schedule with “a proper comedy”, such as  “Birds of a Feather, One Foot in the Grave or Stateline”. The show received record complaints for a Eulogy Song on October 17 2007. Deplored even by Prime Minister John Howard and Leader of the Opposition Kevin Rudd, the edition of the show received more than four-hundred complaints. The song featured distasteful lyrics about Princess Diana, John Lennon and Port Arthur tragedy killer Martin Bryant, among others.

Most notably, The Chaser’s War on Everything attracted a great deal of attention for its attempt to hijack the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) summit. The Chaser team, posing as an official Canadian motorcade, featured one team member dressed as Osama Bin Laden and managed to pass by security into the exclusion zone, to within a few feet of US President George W Bush’s hotel before being stopped. The stunt resulted in eleven members of the Chaser’s on-screen and production team being charged under new APEC laws with “entering a restricted area without justification”.
