So You Think You Can Dance was originally created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe (19 Entertainment Ltd. and Dick Clark Productions) and aims to find the best unearthed dancing talent in Australia, in a similar format to Pop Idol’s search for the nation’s best new singing talent. Based on the hit American TV show, which is hosted by British television presenter Cat Deeley, the Australian programme features a search for the best dancers between 18 and 35 in five audition spots across Australia (Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney). Successful applicants reaching the final selection will be challenged each week to perform different dance styles, including Tango, Rumba, Jive, Cha Cha, Broadway, Mambo and many more.

The Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance is hosted by Natalie Bassingthwaighte, most famous for fronting MTV and ARIA award winning band Rogue Traders. Basingthwaite is also known for her portrayal of Isabelle “Izzy” Hoyland in Channel Ten soap opera Neighbours.

Australia’s So You Think You Can Dance features judges Jason Coleman, Matt Lee and Bonnie Lythgoe. Coleman was choreographer at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games and the Sydney Olympics, as well as choreographing the Manchester Commonwealth Games. Coleman has also choreographed for artists including Kylie Minogue, Tina Arena, Human Nature, and Danni Minogue. Lee choreographed the Australian Dance Awards & Variety Heart Awards and acted as Motion Sensor Principal on the film Happy Feet. Lythgoe was a producer and judge in the first series of America’s So You Think You Can Dance and producer in the second series. Lythgoe also has experience in British dance and theatre productions and London's Italia Conti Theatre Arts School.
