Channel 7’s Dancing with the Stars is a reality TV celebrity ballroom dancing competitions based on the British show Strictly Come Dancing. Since its first season aired in October 2005, the program has performed very well, averaging two million viewers per episode, receiving multiple TV Week Logie Awards, and screening two seasons per year.

Hosted by Strictly Ballroom star Sonya Kruger and former Hey Hey It’s Saturday! host Darryl Summers, the show features celebrities from such diverse backgrounds as acting, singing, and sport. The celebrities are each paired with a professional ballroom dancer and each week their live-to-air dance performances are judged by a regular panel which includes Todd McKenney, Paul Mercurio, Helen Richey, and Mark Wilson. The scores given by these judges are combined with SMS and telephone votes from home viewers, and one couple is eliminated from the competition each week until a winner is chosen.

Previous Dancing with the Stars winners have included actress/singer Bec Hewitt, TV presenter Tom Williams, Home and Away actress Ada Nicodemou, racing driver Grant Denyer, AFL player Anthony Koutoufides, and singer Kate Ceberano. The show features the talents of musical director Chong Lim, who also fulfils this role in Channel 7’s similarly themed celebrity singing contest It Takes Two.
