Unlike that of 2003 winner Guy Sebastian, newly-crowned Australia Idol Wes Carr's music career seems to be delaying take off. In its first week of release, Carr's debut single You sold just 8,292 copies (compared with the 128,679 units Sebastian's first track shifted in week one). 2008 Idol winner Carr won out over Luke Dickens at the Sydney Opera House late last month.

Following his victory Carr said, "I'm speechless. Thank you, I'm shaking", naturally predicting a huge boost to his career. Carr captured a deal with Sony Records and a $200,000 cash injection to further his music career, however given the lacklustre sales of Carr's first single people could be forgiven for thinking that the reality TV show's star is on the wane. Reportedly this year's final drew just 1.85 million TV viewers, compared with 3 million in 2003.

So what do you think? Is Idol losing its appeal? Did Carr deserve to win the competition? Will he be another Guy Sebastian or a Natalie Gauci? Get talking on the Unofficial Australian Idol forum.

Well at least the guy's actually got some talent (and doesn't need his songs written for him). Counts for something.
