Default Australian Idol star Cosima De Vito accused in court of hiding boyfriend from parents

FORMER Australian Idol contestent Cosima De Vito has denied allegations in court that she kept a boyfriend hidden from her parents.

In the Supreme Court yesterday De Vito was forced to discuss relationships, including a boyfriend who she allegedly had sleep in her bed when he joined her on tour.

De Vito is being sued by former managers Constantine Nellis and Ted Gardiner for what they allege is their share of royalties.

But she claims she was only contracted to pay 20 per cent of live performance fees.

Raising the issue of the boyfriend, Nellis' lawyer Jonathan Cohen suggested
De Vito told Nellis: "Please, please, Mum can't find out."

But De Vito replied: "I never slept with my boyfriend."

Cohen: "You were effectively asking Con to lie to your parents."

De Vito: "No, I did not. Nor would I behave in such a way when my baby sister was there."

De Vito became more emotional when Cohen accused her of rejecting a record deal with Sony BMG because fellow Idol contestant
Paulini Curuenavuli had signed with the same label.

"From the age of nine years old my dream was to be with Sony music," De Vito said.

"It was my dream from a little girl. All 12 of us Idols had the dream that we would go into the competition and be signed to Sony.

"We all had that dream. We had all been working for years. I wish I had been signed to a record company. I wouldn't be in the mess I'm in now."

The court also heard that De Vito was ordered to scrap dance song Taste The Tears from her first album but kept it in because "I wanted a track for my gay fans".

"I have a huge gay following," De Vito explained in the witness box. "I (thought) it would be good to have the song on the album."

The court heard De Vito infuriated industry executives by including the song.

Why the hell are they grilling her on whether she had a boyfriend or not? Surely that's her business and her's alone. Sounds bizarre.

What the??
This poor woman. For someone so talented she's been dealt a dodgy hand of cards. Fancy having to put up with this rubbish in court. Whatever happened to the days when we expected our musicians to be out of their brains on drugs and having wild orgies on tour as a matter of course? (Um, I dont think I can actually go anywhere with this argument. I dont agree with drug abuse or dodgy role models, I know a great many of that generation of musos are alreaady dead and out of the ones who have survived, I dont think Cosima is ever going to be like Keith Richards). But anyway-Leave her alone and let her make mooosic!

ps thanks for the post CJC

This new Wes Carr guy sounds similar to the SHOTGUN BLONDE singer Nick Ryan. I reckon Nick's voice is so much better, music is heaps better too.
