Biggest Loser host pleads guilty to welfare fraud

Ajay Rochester, host of the TV reality show Biggest Loser, has pleaded guilty to welfare fraud charges in a Sydney court.

A lawyer acting for the television personality entered the plea on her behalf in Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.

Rochester, 39, is charged with 23 counts of receiving the single parent payment from Centrelink when she knew she was not eligible between December 2001 and December 2005.

Previously named Lee Ann Towler, Rochester shot to fame as the author of such books as Confessions of a Reformed Dieter, Blubberguts and The Lazy Girl's Guide to Losing Weight and Getting Fit.

She began hosting the Ten Network reality show The Biggest Loser in 2006.

Rochester will be sentenced on 13 January next year in the same court.

Poor thing. She's being judged way too harsh, I doubt she'd be making mega-bucks hosting TBL. This is Australia not the US where reality tv hosts make good $$$

Biggest Loser host Ajay Rochester has repaid Centrelink in full after receiving welfare payments when she knew she was not eligible, a Sydney court has been told.

Rochester, 39, pleaded guilty in November to 23 counts of receiving the single-parent payment from Centrelink between December 2001 and December 2005.

Her lawyer told Downing Centre Local Court today that she had paid back all of the overpayment, which totalled just over $14,000.

Previously named Lee Ann Towler, Rochester authored the books Confessions Of A Reformed Dieter, Blubberguts and The Lazy Girl's Guide To Losing Weight And Getting Fit.

She began hosting the Network Ten reality show The Biggest Loser in 2006.

Earlier, Rochester faced a large media pack as she entered the court complex dressed in a white shirt and a grey belted dress.

Magistrate Pat O'Shane will sentence Rochester later today over the welfare fraud.
