Ricki-Lee Coulter is an Australian singer born in Auckland, New Zealand on 11 November, 1985. Coulter moved to Australia at the age of three weeks and has lived on Queensland’s Gold Coast ever since. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, Coulter showed promising talent as a netballer, but her dreams were cut short after a serious knee injury. It was at this stage that she switched her focus to singing.

Coulter performed in numerous school productions and pub gigs around the Gold Coast before auditioning for Seven Network’s talent show, Popstars. She made the top 60 but did not progress any further. It was her audition and eventual progression to the top 12 on Network Ten’s second season of Australian Idol in 2004 that saw her rise to fame in Australia.

Throughout her time as a member of Australian Idol’s top 12, Coulter was considered the favourite to win, with renditions of “Hopelessly Devoted to You”, “Proud Mary”, “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” and “I Have Nothing” impressing the judges and the Australian public. Coulter was eliminated after a poor rendition of “We Can Work it Out” by The Beatles, causing her to finish seventh in the competition. Her untimely exit from the show shocked the audience and prompted the judges to urge voters to support their favourite.

Post-Idol, Coulter signed with Shock Records, an independent label, to produce her debut album, Ricki-Lee, which included the hit singles “Hell No!” and “Sunshine”. In 2006 she teamed up with former Australian Idol contestants Paulini Curuenavuli, Emily Williams, and Kate DeAraugo to form an all-girl group called the Young Divas. Coulter departed the group in 2007, stating that she wanted to return to her solo career. Jessica Mauboy, another former Australian Idol contestant, took her place.

Coulter released her second album, Brand New Day, in August of 2007, which includes her most successful single to date, “Can’t Touch It”. She is now signed to prestigious European label, Ministry of Sound, after a representative heard “Can’t Touch It” on the radio. A busy year for Coulter, 2007 also saw her marry long-term boyfriend, Jamie Babbington in September.
