Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on 11 November 1974 in Los Angeles, California, USA and was named after famous artist Leonardo da Vinci. DiCaprio attended John Marshall High School before attending Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies. DiCaprio has starred in several films including What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), The Basketball Diaries (1995), The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), Catch Me if You Can (2002), The Aviator (2004) and Black Diamond (2006).

DiCaprio began his career in 1989 with the role of Garry Buckham on television series Parenthood alongside actor Toby Maguire. DiCaprio later appeared on soap opera Santa Barbara and television show Growing Pains. DiCaprio shot to fame in 1993 for his role as Toby in The Boy’s Life co-starring with Robert De Niro.

In 1996, DiCaprio won over a million hearts in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet alongside actress Claire Danes. In 1997, the blockbuster feature Titanic was released starring Dicaprio and Kate Winslet. The film won 11 Academy Awards and was the highest grossing movie ever. In 2005, Dicaprio won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Picture Drama for his role in The Aviator.  

DiCaprio has dated supermodel Gisele Bundchen with the relationship ending after four years in 2004. Bundchen is said to have left DiCaprio after a long awaited wedding proposal that never came.

Dicaprio has also been praised for his ongoing commitment with the environmentalist creating, producing and narrating the documentary The 11th Hour. The film looks at the human impact on our planet and highlights solutions that can help restore the earth's damaged eco-systems.
