Born in Houston, Texas, on 28 September, 1987, Hilary Duff is a film and television actress, as well as a singer. At the age of six she and her older sister, Haylie Duff (then aged eight), both decided they wanted to be actors, so they relocated to California with their mother.

In 1998 Duff landed roles as an extra in films True Women and Playing by Heart. It was also in 1998 that she scored her first lead role, playing Wendy in Casper Meets Wendy, a sequel to the film Casper. More success followed when Duff won a Young Artist Award for playing Ellie in The Soul Collector (1999).

Duff’s first big break came in the form of Lizzie McGuire, a Disney television series. Duff played Lizzie from 2001 to 2004, and in 2003 also starred in films Agent Cody Banks (opposite Frankie Muniz), The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Cheaper by the Dozen. Post-Lizzie, Duff starred in more blockbuster films including A Cinderella Story (2004), Raise Your Voice (2004), The Perfect Man (2005), Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005) and Material Girls (alongside sister Haylie in 2006).

On top of acting, Duff also maintains a successful singing career. Her debut album, Metamorphosis, was released in 2003 and included the hit singles “So Yesterday” and “Come Clean”. Her second album, Hilary Duff (2004), was not as popular, with “Fly” and “Someone’s Watching over Me” achieving only minor success. Dignity, Duff’s third studio album, was released in 2007 and includes the popular singles “Stranger” and “With Love”. The music video for “With Love” was also used to promote Duff’s perfume, “With Love… Hilary Duff”. As well as fragrances, she also has a clothing line called “Stuff by Hilary Duff”.

Duff’s past romances include a two year relationship with Aaron Carter (who reportedly dumped her for Lindsay Lohan), a relationship with Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden (now engaged to Nicole Richie) and an alleged romance with NHL player Mike Comrie. Gossip magazines have targeted Duff over her ongoing feud with Avril Lavigne, as well as her dramatic weight loss from 2005 onwards.
