Australian musician Bernard Fanning was born on the 15 August 1969 in Brisbane, Queensland. He went to St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and studied journalism for some time at the University of Queensland.
Fanning joined the band Powderfinger in 1989 after meeting Ian Haugh who invited Fanning to play the guitar. At that time, Haugh’s was the band’s vocalist but later decided to give the role to Fanning who had more promising vocal skills. The band began by playing in pubs in their home city until hitting it big in the 1990’s releasing their first album Parables for Wooden Ears.
In 2003, Fanning made his on-screen debut with a small part in Ned Kelly as an Irish singer. He performed the Australian folk song "Moreton Bay" onstage during the film.
After years of success with Powderfinger, Fanning decided to go solo in October 2005, releasing the album Tea and Sympathy, which featured the singles “Wish You Well” and “Song Bird”. “Wish You Well” was voted #1 on Australian radio station Triple J's Top 100 for 2005.
At the start of 2007 Fanning married Andrea Portela Moreno in Brisbane, Australia, and, following a break, Powderfinger regrouped, releasing their sixth studio album Dream Days at the Hotel Existence.
