Born in Sydney, Australia on 23 July 1983, Bec Cartwright shot to fame in Australia as “Hayley Smith” in Channel 7’s long-running soap, Home and Away. After seven years on the show, she left in 2005, but her character remained, taken over by Ella Scott Lynch. In the same year, she won a Logie for Most Popular Actress, and a year later, a Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality.

Cartwright dipped a toe into music, releasing a self-titled album in 2003, enjoying moderate success with three singles. The single “All Seats Taken” made it to number 10 in the charts, while others climbed up into the 20’s. She has not made any albums since.

In 2005, she was married in a high profile wedding to tennis star Lleyton Hewitt at the Sydney Opera House, with a reception being held at Taronga Zoo. They have since had one daughter, Mia Rebecca.

Cartwright, who has since changed her name to Hewitt, has made other appearances on Australian television, including the first series of Dancing with the Stars in 2004, which she won. More recently, she was part of Channel 9’s ABBAMania, which featured a host of Australian performers, including Guy Sebastian, Toni Pearen, Kate Ceberano, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Rhonda Birchmore.

She currently writes a column for the Australian magazine Woman’s Day and is due to release a clothing line for children called “Bec Kidz”, saying it was “something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Hewitt is often seen courtside, supporting her famous husband as he tries to beat his way back up the tennis ladder. They bought an AU$3 million home on Sydney’s outskirts in 2006, but kept their AU$4.5 million home in Palm Beach as a "weekender".
